Internet Explorer 8 uses compatibility views to optimize the look of some of legacy websites. However it does not come up as a default option to pick. If you have a website that does not look under Internet Explorer 8, i strongly recommend using a meta tag to force IE8 to display website with compatibility view. Meta tags are useful to customize your web applications for your needs. This is a not a hard task, and can be implemented easily.
